INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOTHERAPY
COURSE OBJECTIVES
- To present an introduction to the different psychotherapies for MD undergraduates, psychiatry residents, psychology and social work undergraduate and graduate students, and mental health professionals.
- To review the empirical research with a focus on meta-analyses of specific therapies for patients with specific psychiatric disorders, the therapeutic alliance, and individual patient variables that predict differential response to treatment.
- To review the best approaches for learning psychotherapy
- To see clinical vignettes that demonstrate different therapies with one patient
METHODS OF OBTAINING THESE OBJECTIVES
- Didactic sessions with PowerPoint presentations, vignettes, multiple choice questions, Virtual Therapist, and supervision at clinical placements where available are all essential
